Chain Mail Quilting Bee Dress

England’s summers are tricky. You have to be prepared and have your sunglasses, outfits and suntan lotion ready for the first sunny day because it might be the only sunny day for a while so you don’t want to spend it shopping. My preparation was making a summer dress and I have even had the chance to wear it already.

The pattern is the Quilting Bee Dress from the book Just for You: Selfish Sewing Projects from Your Favorite Sew Can She Bloggers. With only two pattern pieces it’s really quick and easy. I still managed to mess up the neckline because I didn’t cut the binding on the bias. Yeah, I know, what an idiot. Lesson learned.

The fabric is fairly stiff quilting cotton, which is why the dress looks slightly boxy. However, it also doesn’t crease at all. Two sides to every coin and that. Next time I’d make it a size smaller because it does swamp me a little bit – which makes it super comfy though!

I love the fabric design. It’s Chain Mail from Tula Pink’s Elizabeth collection and it’s not the only design from that collection that I’m in love with.

The dress has also become my favourite sewing attire. A bit like my granny with her pinny. Throw it on and start working – great for when you wake up in the morning and can’t wait to get sewing.
